MARGAO: Mehboob Ali who had brazenly undertaken an illegal construction which he completed despite receiving a stop work order from the panchayat on Sunday promised to demolish the illegal construction after the sarpanch along with the secretary inspected the site.
Locals from Dicarpale had complained to the Davorlim Dicarpale panchayat that an illegal construction was completed near Our Lady of Fatima Church and accordingly the panchayat fixed an inspection on Sunday.
Sarpanch Sahar Shaikh along with the secretary conducted the inspection where a large number of villagers were present. In fact, this was the third inspection since December 2018 when work on the illegal structure started.
Mehboob was so brazen that he enclosed two coconut trees inside the room constructed and the panchayat had issued him a stop work order which he ignored and completed the construction.
Sahar told the agitated villagers that she has just taken over as a sarpanch and pointed out that immediately upon receiving the complaint she had carried out a site inspection.
She disclosed that earlier the panchayat had issued a stop work order to Mehboob and assured them that she would take necessary action.
Even as the locals questioned the absence of panchayat member Herculano Niasso and alleged that he was supporting Mehboob, Herculano arrived as the inspection was over and the sarpanch was leaving the site.
