PANJIM: Slamming Manohar Parrikar-led government for failing to protect the private bus owners lobby in the State, BJP MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh on Friday batted for introduction of legislation to protect private bus owners’ rights.
Wagh said that there was a need to introduce ‘private bus owners’ protection bill’ in the Assembly to safeguard the rights of the bus owners, who have been serving the society for years. He said that the bill should also speak about providing financial support to these people.
“Government has given financial protection to almost all sections including farmers, mining workers, students, traditional occupants and others. The same benefit needs to be extended to private bus owners. There need not be any discrimination,” Wagh said while addressing private bus owners during the 4th anniversary celebration of All Goa Private Bus Owners Association (AGPBOA).
St Andre MLA also demanded compensation to the private bus operators who are facing loss, due to 50 percent ticket concession to students and implementation of concessional pass scheme by Kadamba Transport Corporation.
Cong MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco was also present for the function. AGPBOA has around 250 members.
The association appointed its 12-member committee for 2013-14 under leadership of Gautam Sawant.
