PANJIM: Generation Next, an organization formed to expose corruption in various government departments, on Wednesday, filed a complaint with the Panjim police station alleging a major scam in the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2014 opening and closing ceremonies decor.
Generation Next President Durgadas Kamat, has charged IFFI Vice Chairman Damodar Gajanan Naik, Chief Executive Officer Rajan Satardekar and General Manager Shripad Naik of committing fraud of Rs 5 crore.
The complaint is based on a Comptroller and Auditor General report that pointed out the unjustified expenditure of Rs 1.07 crore by TPT Production Pvt Ltd, which was awarded the contract for conceptualization and execution of set design for IFFI’s opening and closing ceremonies at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee stadium in Taleigao. The company was awarded tender for Rs 4.53 crore, however the bills raised by the company amounted to Rs 5.61 crore.
GenNext held a press conference exposing IFFI irregularities, a day prior to filing the police complaint.
“The three individuals in collusion with the successful bidders/agencies are obviously defrauding the exchequer of crores of rupees through such scams. All the offences made out above are cognizable. Be pleased to immediately investigate into the above offences under Sections 409 and 418 of Indian Penal Code and other provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act,” the complaint copy reads.
