PWD engineers have assured Baina residents that the ongoing water scarcity issue will be resolved by connecting the existing old water supply pipeline to a new one. The department has also proposed laying a new pipeline as a permanent solution to the recurring problem.
Following several complaints from women about severe water shortage in the Baina area ahead of the Diwali festival, Mormugao councillor Shraddha Amonkar conducted a joint inspection with PWD officials at Baina on Friday.
During the inspection, resident Suvarna Nayak stated that they had been facing water shortage for over a year despite repeated complaints to the authorities.
Amonkar said she had received multiple complaints from women in the locality and had immediately called for an on-site inspection to assess the gravity of the situation.
According to PWD engineers, a shutdown at the Seraulim water reservoir had affected water supply to Baina in Mormugao taluka. “We will start improvement works by October 23 and connect the existing pipeline to a new one near Shafi Masjid to restore regular water supply. The current pipelines are decades old, so a new pipeline has also been proposed as a long-term solution,” the PWD engineers said.
