MARGAO: A stretch of the Western Bypass will be opened for traffic on January 31. The internal road in Nuvem will remain as one way for traffic coming from the Panjim direction.
The speed limit on the National Highway is 80 kilometres per hour. There are two roads through which traffic from Margao as well as the Eastern Bypass can enter the highway – one is opposite the Goa Rajee Honda showroom and second is near the fish market. Though the routes are yet to be notified publicly, the traffic will be allowed to flow on the highway.
The work on the highway/bypass has been going on for quite some time and the inauguration of this particular stretch would ease the difficulties faced by motorists.
According to highway engineers, the tarring of the roads is completed and the signages will be erected subsequently. To avoid confusion at the Gonvoloy intersection in Nuvem, rumbler strips have been laid.
Meanwhile works of hot-mix carpeting have begun all over Margao. Hot-mixing of roads at Khareband costing Rs 2.32 crore commenced earlier this week and as per the PWD the entire road network of Margao will be hot-mixed in the coming days.
Hot-mixing of Margao-Navelim road has also commenced on Wednesday. The tarring of the Pajifond road which was in a bad shape due to various digging works will begin on Thursday.
