PORIEM: A hunting trip with his friends to the forest in Patwal, Sattari turned into a tragedy when 22-year-old Samad Khan, a resident of Nanus, Valpoi, lost his life allegedly due to gunshot early Wednesday.

According to the police, Samad along with his two friends namely Babu Sanghar (38) and Gaus Patel (28), both from Chinchmal-Mauxi, Valpoi, Sattari, had gone in a car to hunt a wild boar to the forest Patwal, Sattari, at around 10.30 pm on Wednesday. They had carried two ‘illegal firearms’ loaded with cartridges along with other ammunitions.
During the hunting, a shot was fired allegedly from one of the firearms, which hit Samad’s chest. He sustained grievous injuries and succumbed later. Samad had passed his engineering degree this year and was working in a company at Verna.
Babu Sanghar and Noor Ahmed Patel have been arrested by the police. Patel is the uncle of the deceased, police said.
Speaking to reporters, North Goa Superintendent of Police (SP) Akshat Kaushal, IPS said, “Two weapons have been recovered by the police and there will be a forensic examination of the same.”
He said that interrogation is underway and the Valpoi police will thoroughly investigate the case to find the exact cause of the incident.
Kaushal said, “We had received information from a hospital stating that one person has been brought with gunshot wounds. Valpoi Police visited the hospital and the scene where the incident took place.
According to those arrested, all three had gone hunting and during that one of them received a gunshot.”
“How he received the gun shot and what were the circumstances, all these things are matters of investigation. We are working on that. We have recovered two weapons,” he said.
The body of the deceased has been sent to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, for post-mortem examination. On hearing the tragic death of their son, the parents who were working abroad returned home on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Valpoi Police have filed an FIR under Sections 105 read with 3(5) BNS, Section 3 read with 25 of The India Arms Act and Section 9 of The Wild Life Protection Act 1972 .
The case is being investigated by Valpoi PI Videsh Shirodkar under the guidance of Bicholim DySP Jivba Dalvi and overall guidance of North SP Akshat Kaushal.
