Will changing the CEO of Smart City make Panjim smart?

Smart cities aim to leverage technology and innovation to enhance the quality of life for their residents and improve the efficiency of urban services. However the ‘Panjim Smart City’ has failed to meet expectations.

The Goa Government now has at last admitted that SMART CITY works were not going forward as expected, and were thus forced to change the CEO. Now that the CEO OF Panjim’s Smart City has been changed, will this make Panjim SMART as the monsoons loom?

Sanjit Rodrigues IAS has replaced North Goa collector Mamu Hage as the CEO of the Smart City Project. Hage in April admitted works under the Smart City Mission in Panjim are being executed at a ‘slightly slow pace’,  and practical difficulties are being encountered by the contractors while undertaking the works.

The Goa Chief Minister on Thursday admitted that he was expecting changes (in the execution of smart city works) but things did not move forward as desired. “Sanjit is an experienced officer who in the past has handled projects in Panjim implemented through CCP, GSIDC and AMRUT Mission.  Sanjit is well versed in everything in Panjim and these are the reasons why we have given him the charge as MD and CEO of IPSCDl”, the Chief Minister said. He added that there was a lack of coordination between the departments & the issue will be resolved within the next 7 days.

The Smart City work will now go on 24×7 in 3 shifts till June 15.  No new roads will be dug up & only the existing roads will be repaired.
