PERNEM: A woman in Mandrem was brutally beaten by a crowd of both men and women inside Shri Devi Bhumika Temple, Ashwem, Mandrem on Monday. The reason for the assault is not known. The victim has filed a formal complaint with the Mandrem Police Station. On Tuesday, the victim sat outside the temple on a hunger strike, crying for justice.
The Mandrem Police have registered an FIR against 6 persons for assault — Pravin Sawant, Rajesh Sawant, Jairam Sawant, wife of Rajesh Sawant, Ladoo Sawant, Wife of Ladoo Sawant and others all residents of of Ashvem, Mandrem.
The reasons cited are using filthy words and assaulting the victim with slaps, kicks and fist blows causing her injuries and during the scuffle accused persons touched the complainant lady inappropriately thereby outraging her modesty and threatened with dire consequences to kill.
Mandrem police have registered an FIR under sections 352, 115(2), 75, 351 (3) r/w 3(5) of Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita 2023.
