Work begins on laying of power cable at Calangute

CALANGUTE: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Friday inaugurated the work to lay the Rs 7 crore 11 KV underground electricity cable project at Calangute.

The project was inaugurated in the presence of Calangute Sarpanch Ana Maria C D’Souza, Arpora-Nagoa Sarpanch Sushma Nagvekar, former Calangute sarpanch Joseph Sequeira, panchas of Calangute, Arpora-Nagoa and Parra and officials of Electricity department.

“The 11 KV underground cabling will bring relief to the power consumers who have been frequently complaining of low voltages. Calangute will be able to cater to the needs of power supply to hotels and other commercial establishments. I hope the project will be completed at the earliest,” said Lobo.

K J Joy, assistant engineer, outlined the project of 11 KV underground electricity cabling. “The estimated cost of the project is Rs 7 crore and it will benefit people from Calangute, Arpora, etc. Once the project is completed, it will take care of low voltage problem. The 33-km work will be completed within 4-5 months, if all goes well.”

Calangute Sarpanch D’Souza and Sequeira also spoke on the occasion.
