Workshop on role of society in handling waste

PANJIM: With emphasis on urban sanitation and solid waste management, the government has scheduled a State-level workshop on the role of the civil society into handling of waste and segregation. 
The Directorate of Municipal Administration has organised a day-long workshop at EDC, Panjim on Saturday, to facilitate the effective involvement of individuals, organisations and institutions in waste management in the municipal areas and the Corporation. “The Goa State Urban Development Agency is the nodal agency for implementing the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), and one of the components deals with the solid waste management for which the agency is taking up the steps to augment capacity for treatment of municipal solid waste. A clean city is a concentrate effort by the city managers and the civil society; and therefore decision making process for managing solid waste in urban areas requires more involvement of public,” DMA Director Tariq Ahmed said.
