CURCHOREM: The Curchorem police on Friday arrested Xelvona murder accused Hemant alias Sarvesh Dessai (28).
Hemant is a resident of Xelvona in Curchorem and he was absconding after murdering his cousin Suryakant Dessai (44) at his residence on Feb 23.
Curchorem police said that the accused woman Shevanti (55) and her son Hemant Dessai (28) hit the deceased with a spade behind the head after some quarrel over a property dispute. After committing the ghastly act the accused Hemant ran away from the scene and was absconding.
Investigating Officer PI Ravindra Desai said they received information from a source that Hemant was spotted at Keri on a two-wheeler without a number plate. “Seeing the police, the accused who was travelling on the bike abandoned it and ran towards the jungle at Hadwadi in Keri-Dodamarg. Our team nabbed him after chasing for a half kilometre from the main road,” PI Desai told Herald.
The police inspector also said the accused was arrested under Section 302 and would be produced before the Court on Saturday for remand.
It may be recalled that the mother and son committed the crime and the mother was arrested after the wife of the deceased complained to the police that her husband was assaulted by the duo on February 23 and the complaint was registered Under Section 307 attempt to murder.
Later, the deceased was shifted to Curchorem Primary Health Centre, Curchorem from there he was taken to Hospicio Hospital, Margao. He died on his way to Goa Medical College, Bambolim.
Earlier on Thursday, Hemant’s anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Session Court. Meanwhile, police informed that Shevanti is lodged in Colvale jail.
