An attempt to garner sympathy ….or not

The death of the former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee brought forth much sentiment about the stature and the statesman like quality of him. This however possibly presented the ruling dispensation with an opportunity wring some sympathy by taking the ashes of the late PM to all the states to be immersed in the rivers as the pace towards the next general elections gathers pace. Girish Chodankar, President Goa Pradesh Congress Committee and Vinay Tendulkar State President BJP and Rajya Sabha their view on this exercise

HERALD: Do you think Vajpayee’s asthi Atal Kalash Yatra an attempt to en-cash his death to garner sympathy for Parliamentary elections 2019 or was it a genuine attempt to honour the former Prime Minister?
TENDULKAR: Let anyone speak anything, those people did not know what true Vajaypee was. Vajaypee is the main behind the party achieving such great heights today. It was not an attempt to en-cash his death to garner sympathy for Parliamentary elections 2019 but it was a genuine attempt to honour the former Prime Minister. There is still time for the 2019 elections.
HERALD:  What is your opinion of his ashes being immersed next to the casinos in Mandovi isn’t that a double faced insult to the Departed PM’s ideals?
TENDULKAR: We decided to immerse the ashes into the Mandovi and Zuari Rivers. We did not immerse it next to the casinos, if you to see people also do visarjan of Ganapati there. People whose brains are polluted talk like this. We believe that both these rivers are pure. Permissions for casinos were given by the Congress government. People who brains are polluted talk in such a way.
HERALD: Goa also was the place where Vajpayee as a PM had absolved Narendra Modi of his crimes in Gujarat 2002 riots and blamed Muslims for it. Do you feel Goa would have forgiven and forgotten that to honour the late PM?
TENDULKAR: Vajaypee was in Goa that time for the National Executive meeting. All the opposition during that time were blaming our Chief Minister Narendra Modi. There is nothing in that issue. The opposition want some issue to speak and they will speak.
HERALD: How does Modi compare to Vajpayee as a PM?
TENDULKAR: We cannot compare both of them. Vajaypee was Vajaypee and Modi is Modi. It is according to how you think.
HERALD: Do you think Vajpayee’s asthi Atal Kalash Yatra an attempt to en-cash his death to garner sympathy for Parliamentary elections 2019 or was it a genuine attempt to honour the former Prime Minister?
CHODANKAR: Yes, all events involving the Asti Visarjan of Atalji is an attempt to garner sympathy ahead of the Parliamentary elections. This behaviour is deplorable. Late Vajpayee Ji’s niece has castigated BJP for misusing Vajpayeeji’s legacy. This pragmatic view is of all the people not only those involved in politics but even the common citizen . The BJP led NDA Government has been clearly exposed in all possible manner. They do not have any agenda or program to go back to the people. More so there is in fighting within BJP and l its own allies. They have failed to live up to the mandate given by the people of India and promises they made. BJP in these times are using death of Atalji as a tool to counter anti incumbency. This has in-fact Boomeranged big time as the people today  are very  much awake to the fact how Atalji and Advaniji were sidelined and party has been sabotaged by Modi and Amit Shah .
HERALD: What is your opinion of his ashes being immersed next to the casinos in Mandovi isn’t that a double faced insult to the Departed PM’s ideals?
CHODANKAR:  According to Hindu ideology on death of a person the ashes have to be immersed in the holy waters and thereby enable the spirit to discharge from servitude and enable the soul to attain moksha. In Goa at Harvalem there is “tirthstal “or the “holy place “where such immersion is done by most of the Hindus. By immersing the ashes in Mandovi which is polluted by unholy casinos the BJP had defiled the Holy soul of Vajpayeeji. This exposes the unholy act of BJP. The BJP have shown total disrespect for the great soul of Atalji . In fact the ashes procession looked as if they were celebrating Vajpayeeji’s death and the carrying ashes was some sort of trophy. It was deeply hurting to see that ashes Of Atal Bihari Vajpayeeji immersed in River Mandovi which is full casino sludge .The man definitely deserved better recognition it is really unfortunate & classic example that for publicity stunt how low can BJP can go.
HERALD:  Goa also was the place where Vajpayee as a PM had absolved Narendra Modi of his crimes in Gujarat 2002 riots and blamed Muslims for it. Do you feel Goa would have forgiven and forgotten that to honour the late PM?
CHODANKAR: InfactAtalji was the one who had Slammed Narendra Modi in Public after Gujarat 2002 Riots and Advised him to Treat People Equally Irrespective of Religion and Follow Raj Dharma .He had not absolved him but taunted and denounced him publicly to follow “Raj Dharma”. Atalji was very vocal enough and wanted to sack Modi and it was only at instance of Advaniji he was retained as  CM. At that point in time the decision was bad looking in the manner which the riots were carried out as if it is a state action against minoritiesAND it ultimately cost Atalji re-election in 2014. The scars have remained but every man makes mistakes but taking nothing away from the statesman he was he required to be honoured but not by immersing ashes in sludge of Casinos in Mandovi River which is indeed an insult to the great soul. This act will come to haunt BJP very soon.
HERALD: How does Modi compare to Vajpayee as a PM?
CHODANKAR: Atalji was a statesman for-whom everyone had respect AND sympathy unlike Modi .Atalji  too made promises but he tried to fulfill them and was candid enough to admit his shortcomings & conducted himself in nonpartisan  manner taking opposition into confidence. His politics was not a politics of hate and degrading opposition .The BJP of those days was a-different BJP who had values & respect towards opposition unlike today .With Modi coming into his prime the culture of BJP has changed. They are now party with no values & respect for others.
