John, Cielda win ‘Best Singer Award 2017’

Tt the Tiatr Academy of Goa’s Konkani Song and Music Awards function, in the male and female category, John Pereira and Cielda Pereira won the Best Singer Award 2017 for the songs ‘Mainche Upkari’ and‘Devache Ghutt’respectively.
This year, the awards were presented on March 22, 2018 at the Institute Menezes Braganza Hall, Panjim at the hands of well-known musician Fr Peter Cardozo, in the presence of TAG VicePresidentWilliam Fernandes, jury member Tomazinho Cardozoand TAG Member Secretary Cezar D’Mello.  Speaking on the occasion, Tomazinho Cardozo gave his views and feedback of the competition and requested the producers to include different varieties of songs like interactive duets, duos, trios, quartets and choral songs in the albums and also to create new tunes for the songs in order to preserve qualitative Konkani songs for future generations.
The Chief Guest, Fr Cardozo, appreciated the efforts of TAG in organising various activities for the preservation and promotion of Konkani song and music. He suggested that the musicians should put melody in the songs, also giving the singers some tips in singing. The competition was judged by Tomazinho Cardozo and noted lyricist Fr Olavo Caiado.
The awards for best child singer male, best child singer female and best quintet were not declared as there were insufficient entries in those categories. Also, the best trio and best quartet were not awarded as the songs were not interactive in nature and the best album award was not awarded as no album fulfilled the conditions laid under the rules of the competition.
Noted musician Lenoy Gomendes along with his troupe performed on the occasion.
