PANJIM: ‘SMART’LY BATTERED

Selected as one of the Smart Cities, the quality of infrastructure related work under the Smart City Mission has been under the scanner for quite a long time. The recent spate of city’s roads caving in adds up to the growing list of people’s woes. In separate incidents, two heavy vehicles partially sank as roads caved in due to the ongoing sewerage line works under the Smart City Mission, on Thursday. In the afternoon, near the St Inez Church, the rear wheels of a sewage suction truck partially sank as the road caved in and later in the evening, a water tanker belonging to the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) met the same fate near Azad Maidan as a portion of the road suddenly caved in exposing the hollow structure of the road.  

So far, five such accidents have taken place at the sites of Smart City works since February 6. In this backdrop,
