CALANGUTE: 7 Tomatoes, Calangute edged past Tivai Vaddo Boys 3-2 via the tie-breaker in the final of Salis and Kevin 7-a-side one-day football tournament, at Calangute Association ground, on Sunday. In all, 16 teams participated.
After a barren full time, Akshay Dabholkar, Mohan Bandekar and Dinesh Morajkar were on target for 7 Tomatoes in the ensuing tie-breaker. Only Joelif and Ashley converted for Tivai Vaddo Boys.
The winners and runners-up were awarded Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. The individual prizes were awarded to the following. First scorer of the final: Akshay Dabholkar (7 Tomatoes). Best defender: Lawrence Rodrigues (Tivai Vaddo Boys). Best goalkeeper: Dinesh Morajkar (7 Tomatoes). Best midfielder: Gauresh Dessai (7 Tomatoes).
Chief guest Victor Fernandes gave away the prizes in the presence of Gajanand Kerkar, president of Calangute Association; Padma Nair, vice-president of Calangute Association; Marcelino Fernandes, sports secretary; Filipe Dias, vice-president of Goa Boxing Association; Ana Maria D’Souza, panch member of VP Calangute and Juliana from Brazil in the presence of other dignitaries. Salis Fernandes compered. He also proposed the vote of thanks.
