PANJIM: Almeida High School, Ponda won the School championship of 7th SRS Ponda taluka level chess tournament, organized by SRS computer services, Ponda, at Desai Pratishthan hall, Wagle High School, Mangeshi, Ponda. Total 117 students from 15 different schools from Ponda participated.
SS Samiti’s IVBD High School clinched the second position while Wagle High School, Mangeshi settled for the third place.
In a tough competition, Milind Gauns from Almeida HS scored eight points to bag the first place in the individual category. Aston Dias with 7.5 points secured the second place and Vishwesh Pai with seven points secured the third place.
Sohan Nageshkar, Mohit Khandeparkar, Vibhav Volvoikar, Vageesh Tendulkar, Akash Chodankar, Rutik Gaude, Nandan Sakordekar, Kaushal Naik, Sarvam Naik, Vignesh Sawant, Aniket Prabhu and Ved Patil clinched the fourth to 15th positions respectively.
Consolation prizes were awarded to Varad Devari (Swami Vivekanand HS, Borim), Pritesh Rawal (Swastik Vidyalaya, Priol), Chetan Gaude (Govt. High School, Sadar), and Niraj Borkar (GVM’s Pragati Vidyalaya, Ponda).
The 13 rated players namely Akash Chodankar, Kaushik Khedekar, Gayatri Bhonsle, Digjay Gaude, Parth Desai, Rutik Shanbhag, Soham Naik, Yogiraj Sangaokar, Rutik Gaude, Aniket Prabhu, Virendra Sahakari, Kaushal Naik and Vishwesh Pai from Ponda Taluka were felicitated by the organizers.
Radha Sakordekar was the tournament director. Amogh Namshiker was the chief arbiter. Prizes and certificates were awarded to the players by chief guest Dr Anil Dinge, Principal of PES College, Ponda and Sagar Sakordekar, President of Ponda Taluka Chess Association.
Sagar Sakordekar, Managing Director of SRS Computers, welcomed. Radha Sakordekar, chief faculty of SRS computers proposed the vote of thanks. Sandip Pagi, Anand Kurtikar, Datta Naik, Reshma Hasmani and Kalpita Verekar were instrumental in the success of the tournament. The function was compered by Archana Tendulkar and Sandesh Naik.
