MAPUSA: Assonora United Football Club hammered Goa Velha Sports Club 5-1 to move ahead in the late Pramodini Dattaram Palyekar Soccer Cup organized by Football Club of Siolim, at Siolim church ground, on Monday.
At halftime, Assonora Utd led by a 3-0 margin, with M.A. Francis firing in a brilliant hat-trick.
Changing ends, Assonora United got back into the scoring act with Pascoal firing in the ball from close range while minutes later Rohan Salgaonkar saw his strike from outside the 18-yard box crash into the Goa Velha nylons.
Towards the fag end of the match, Goa Velha managed to get a goal to their credit, when they were awarded a penalty after Joseph Rodrigues was brought down by Assonora custodian inside the penalty area.
Joseph who himself stepped forward to take the kick made no mistake in scoring.
On Sunday, Friends XI Vaddem got past Milagres SC by 3-1 margin.
