PANJIM: CAC Sports and Social Club edged past Ambelim Sports Club 2-1 in All-Goa Matanhy Saldanha memorial inter-village football tournament organized by Velsao Villagers Association at Dr T B da Cunha ground, Cansaulim.
Ambelim drew first blood after Jade Colaco picked up a Percival D’ Silva pass and scored with a deft placement.
After the lemon break, Cansaulim’s Peter Rodrigues and Cadwick Furtado worked tirelessly and set up substitute Regan Juliao, who shot past the rival goalkeeper for the equalizer.
Ambelim put more pressure on their rivals as Cansaulim defender Elvino Fernandes handled the ball in the box and the referee was in the right position to award a penalty. However, Lyndon D’ Silva squandered a golden opportunity as he ballooned over from the spot-kick.
In the final quarter, Cansaulim went all out and Peter sent an intelligent through ball to Agnelo Colaco, who sprinted into the danger zone and passed the ball to unmarked Regan, who registered his brace with a powerful strike.
Cansaulim defenders Jacinto and Menino stood rock-solid and restrained the rival attacks.
