PANJIM: The Goa government will move the local court to expedite the trial in the Calvim bus tragedy in which six people, including four female students died, when a private bus carrying them plunged into a river at Aldona in February 2012.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the House that government will write to the Court seeking immediate justice for the victims’ families.
Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco raised the issue during Question Hour. “I will request the court to deliver immediate justice to families of the victims,” he said.
The Mapusa police filed a chargesheet before the Mapusa JMFC on January 17, 2013 against the bus owner and driver.
The police have also booked bus owner Chandrakant Naik under the same charges and added sections 134 (a) (b) and 190 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco sought to know from the government why it was shielding Samarth Shirodkar, son of then BJP Aldona Block President.
“Why he (son) was not chargesheeted? Why is justice not given even after one-and-half year of the accident? Why is the government sleeping?” he questioned.
The Chief Minister clarified that the accident happened during the tenure of the previous government, but he will inquire with the RTO inspector if allegations of shielding the minor boy are proved.
Parrikar reiterated that compensation has already been given to the victims’ families.
