MAPUSA: Calangute Association SC walked past hot favorites FC Siolim by 3-0 margin to clinch the inaugural edition of Vedanta inter-village football tournament 2025 organised by Sinquerim Sports Club, at the Sinquerim ground, recently.
The final witnessed a spirited performance from both teams, with fans filling the stands to witness a highly anticipated showdown. Calangute Association took an early lead in the 15th minute of the first half through a clinical finish by Runal Shirodkar.
Maintaining their momentum, they doubled the advantage in the 30th minute with a brilliant strike from Domnic Fernandes.
Despite FC Siolim’s persistent efforts and pressure in the second half, Calangute Association’s defense stood strong, backed by a stellar performance from their goalkeeper Cydon D’Souza, who made several crucial saves.
The final nail in the coffin came in the 70th minute, when Jovito Fernandes scored the third goal, sealing a comprehensive 3-0 victory for Calangute Association.
The match ended on a note of sportsmanship and celebration. During the post-match awards ceremony, Calangute Association took home the winners’ trophy and cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, while FC Goa had to be content with runners-up trophy and cash prize of Rs 50,000.
