CANDOLIM: Candolim Sports Club registered a hard fought 1-0 win over Chapora Yuvak Sangh to enter the semi-finals of the Lakanpal Novino Soccer Cup played at Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground, on Saturday.
Candolim took an early lead when Chapora defender Somshekar Kumbar tackled Candolim striker Dwyane Britto, inside the penalty box, prompting referee to point to the penalty spot.
Dwyne made no mistake as he scored past Chapora keeper Dinesh Morajkar making it 1-0.
Post resumption, Candolim almost doubled their lead but Bhavesh Candolkar power-packed strike hit the Chapora’s horizontal bar.
In the last quarter of the match Chapora colts went all out in search of the equaliser but the last line of Candolim defence held to their one goal lead till the final whistle.
