MAPUSA: Candolim Sports Club scored a hard fought 2-1 over Saligao United Sports Club to make it into the quarter-finals of the Vagator PYSC Soccer, played at Vagator ground, Ozren on Tuesday.
Candolim began on an attacking note where in the early minutes Bhavesh set the ball on platter to Canute De Souza whose powerful shot sailed inches past the Saligao goal.
For Saligao Earl Sequeira was a wee bit late to guide in Govind Mahale’s pinpoint cross. Candolim managed to break the deadlock in the 40th minute of play when Canute De Souza slammed in a half volley from the edge of the box, 1-0.
Saligao managed to level terms in the 52nd minute after Candolim defender Bhavesh, in the process of clearing the ball guided it into his own nets, 1-1.
When it looked the match was heading for a draw Candolim came with the match-winner through Anthony Duarte Fernandes, whose free-kick gave no chance to the diving Saligao keeper, 2-1.
