PANJIM: On the strength of a whirlwind double century by captain Yash Kasvankar, Goa reached a strong position on the second day of their Cooch Behar Trophy Elite (U-19) four-day match, at the Sector 10 BS Cricket Stadium, Bhilai, in Chhattisgarh.
Replying to Chhattisgarh’s first-innings total of 170 all out, the Goa team reached 389 for 9 in 118 overs. Yash played a true captain’s knock, smashing an unbeaten 243 runs with 20 fours and five sixes. Goa have now taken a 219-run lead.
Goa resumed on Monday from the overnight score of 87 for 4, but soon slipped to 160 for 7. Yash steadied the innings, first adding 88 runs for the eighth wicket with Chigurupati Venkata (40). After that, Shiven Borker (20) dug in at the crease, and with his support, Yash built a 124-run partnership for the ninth wicket.
At stumps, Samarth Rane (0) was at the crease alongside Yash.
On Tuesday, the third day of the match, Goa will aim to bowl out Chhattisgarh quickly in their second innings and push for an innings victory.
