PANJIM: Carmel SC beat St. Rock YC, Calata Majorda 2-1 to move into the finals of the Third Division League organised by Goa Football Association, at Artificial Turf, Fatorda on Saturday.
Kicking off proceedings, Jovin Costa of Carmel SC flicked it to Dalwin Costa in the start but the St. Rock YC goalkeeper was faster to get the ball.
A minute later Carmel SC had a perfect chance to take the lead by earning a free kick in the 3rd minute and Beurin Teles of Carmel SC placed his shot well on target right into the goalkeeper’s hands.
Berwin Teles made no mistake and placed his strong right footer at the back of the nets in the 9th minute of the game giving Carmel SC an early 1-0 lead.
Two minutes later, Roygen Pereira of St Rock YC tried to equalise but found his shot straight at the Carmel custodian.
Kevin Almeida received a well placed free kick in the 14th minute but his strike was placed way above the crossbar.
Midway into the first half, Berwin Teles’ shot from the edge of the box off a free kick went straight to the Majorda goalkeeper who then deflected it for a corner.
Roygen of St. Rock YC then placed a powerful shot in the 27th minute but it went way pass the post.
A minute later, Jovin Costa of Carmel SC made a darting run from the midfield into the box and made no mistake to net it in past the keeper making it 2-0.
Carmel SC went into the half with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Moving into the second half, St. Rocks Kevin Almeida was fed with a perfect ball but the Carmel keeper was quick to clear it to safety.
Both teams had good control of the ball with both players running deep into the box and trying to create chances.
Carmel SC had some brilliant chances through Laxman Thappa and Dalwin Costa who tried hard to penetrate into the rival side but the Majorda defenders didn’t let loose.
Being two goals down, the Majorda boys seemed to have lost the fighting spirit and couldn’t control the ball as Carmel SC kept pressing in from the flanks.
But St. Rock YC pulled one down in the additional minute with a fine shot into the nets by substitute Mewton Fernandes making it 2-1.
