PANJIM: Carvalho Brothers, Tivim got the better of San Antonio Warriors B, Guirim 3-2 in the final of the 7th Annual Pioneer Trophy, one-day Hockey 5’s tournament, organized by Pilar Fathers in collaboration with Stars of Sattari Hockey Club, Valpoi and supported by Goans Hockey and Hockey Heritage Group, Goa, at Don Bosco School ground, Panjim, recently.
A total of eight teams participated in the tournament which was played on a league cum knock-out basis.
Carvalho Bros shot in the lead with Sam Braganza finding the back of the board with a deft placement of the ball. The lead quickly went up with Dattesh Priolkar scoring a brilliant goal to put Carvalho Bros up 2-0 with a comfortable margin. San Antonio Warriors were not let down and fought back in the match in a very positive fashion. Pandurang Sakhalkar pulled a goal back on the onset of the second half.
San Antonio Warriors continued to put tremendous pressure and Raju Rathod unleashing a powerful shot to make it 2-2 with just five minutes left on the clock.
The experience of Carvalho Bros showed and they played a quick one two move and Onkar caught the goalkeeper off-guard and hit a long powerful shot from nearly the halfway mark that completely beat the keeper to give Carvalho Bros a 3-2 lead.
The Most promising player of the tournament went to Yogesh Patel of Sporting Clube de Goa while the Best midfielder award went to Raju Rathod of San Antonio Warriors B, Guirim.

The chief guest was MLA of Aldona Constituency, Glen Ticlo, who gave away the prizes in the presence of guest of honour, Tony Correia, Chairman and Managing Director of Gulf Goans Hotels; Fr Dominic Alvares, Chairman, Mission Commission of Pilar Society and others.
