MARGAO: Star goalkeeper of yesteryears, Benzinho Fernandes inaugurated the Chandor Grassroots Development Centre at Chandor church ground, Monday.
In all, 30 boys have enrolled at the centre which will have Marino Dias, Christopher Fernandes as coaches and Derrick Braganza Pereira as administrator.
Earlier, Armando Colaco opened the Chinchinim Grassroots Football Development Centre under Salcete Grassroots Football Development programme.
Armando Colaco asked the trainees to emulate the example of Chinchinim’s Mauricio Afonso who captained the India team and donned India colours for several years.
Bro. James Marcus, chairman of the Grassroots Project, Felipe Neri Rodrigues, president of CRC Chinchinim, spoke. Joe Dias, president of Salcete FC, welcomed and later, proposed the vote of thanks.
Felix Barreto and Oscar D’Costa, secretary of Sirlim SC are the centre administrators and Mathew Pereira, Wilson Fernandes, David Rebelo and Osley Cardoso the coaches.
Tomorrow, the 9th centre will be inaugurated at Padribath ground, Sao Jose de Areal at 4 p.m. It is being promoted by Sao Jose de Areal Club and is sponsored by Salgaocar Football Club.
