AMBELIM: Cuncolim Union registered a 3-1 win over Maina Sports Club in the ongoing Lourdes Soccer Cup, organised by Ambelim Sports Club and played at Ambelim ground, on Tuesday.
It’s was end-to-end battle from the word go as both teams tried to prove their supremacy over their rivals.
However, it was Maina SC, who had the first taste at the rival goal when Milagres Fernandes tried from a distance, but Cuncolim keeper Shaikh Sahael came to his side’s rescue with a heroic save.
Maina SC were not done, they had yet another chance in the first half when Caitano Viegas took a direct free-kick but much to his dismay, his effort hit the cross bar and went out of play.
Despite playing some good football, Cuncolim failed to register a single shot at the goal.
Crossing ends, after initial midfield battle, Cuncolim almost took the lead but Maina SC keeper Johnson Bhogot came with a diving save to deny Clifton Fernandes.
Both teams failed to break the deadlock in regulation time.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Edroy Fernandes, Beston Colaco and Rosario Carvalho converted for the winners, while only Floyd Barreto scored for the losing side.
