MARGAO: Cuncolim Union thumped St Anthony Sports Club, Assolda 4-1 to cruise into the semi-final of Salcete Zone GFA Third Division league, at 3MTR ground, Navelim, on Tuesday. Cuncolim Union led 3-0 at half time.
Cuncolim Union dominated the proceedings and pushed their opponents on the back-foot for major part of the opening session. They did not wait for long as Daulat Dessai opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when he beat the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot after receiving a well measured pass from Cliffton Fernandes.
A lot was expected from St Anthony Sports Club but their forwards hardly troubled the rival defence.
Leander D’Cunha doubled the lead when he unleashed a stiff shot that crashed into the net.
Spurred by the 2-0 cushion, Cuncolim Union mounted tremendous pressure on the rival goal and in the 40th minute Cliffton Fernandes put the issue beyond doubt when he bulged the net.
Crossing over, Cuncolim Union slackened their pace and allowed their opponents to launch a barrage of attacks which allowed Carry Vaz score a consolation goal in the 56 minute.
Undeterred, Cuncolim Union breached the rival defence in the 70th minute as Rosario Carvalho fired the last nail into rival coffin.
In another match, St Sebastian SC, Aquem grounded Sao Jose de Areal SC 4-2.
