PANJIM: Curtorim Gymkhana huffed and puffed their way past United Club of Telaulim 8-7 via the sudden-death to inscribe their name on 40th Bandodkar Memorial Trophy after a thrilling final at MPT ground, Vasco, Sunday. There was no score at full time.

In the tie-breaker, Custodio Peixote, Vicky Cardoso, Joao Fernandes, Nelson Fernandes, Joaquim Carvalho, Brano Fernandes, Neville Fernandes and Sertorio Monteiro converted for Curtorim while Amiruddin Kurtadvar, Wilton Gomes, Rovelt Gomes, Bittu Singh, Alister Gomes, Alvito Colaco, Joseph Dias scored for Telaulim while Domnic Cabral try was saved by Curtorim goalkeeper Custodio Peixote.
Curtorim Gymkhana were richer by Rs 50,000 while United Club of Telaulim had to be content with Rs 40,000. Semi-final losers Saligao United Club and United Club of Nerul were awarded Rs 10,000 each.
Other prizes — Best goalkeeper of the tournament: Custodio Pereira (Curtorim Gymkhana). Promising/upcoming player: Alvito Colaco (United Club of Telaulim). Highest scoring team: Curtorim Gymkhana. Highest scorer of the tournament: Sergio Monteiro (Curtorim Gymkhana). Best disciplined team of the tournament: Panchwadi United Club, Shiroda. Man-of-the-match of the finals: Joaquim Carvalho (Curtorim Gymkhana). They were given Rs 3,000 each.
Before the start of the match, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of D B Bandodkar, Sidharth Bandodkar and the deceased members of Baina Sports Club, Theo Carvalho, ex-president, Benedito Gonsalves, Joao Pereira, Nazareth Gonsalves and Jaingir Shaikh.
Power Minister Milind Naik was the chief guest while Jyoti Bandekar, Daji Salkar, Adv. T T Shreedharan, Nazil Khan, Vassu Nair were the guests of honour. They gave away the prizes in the presence of other dignitaries.
Earlier, Navnath Naik, secretary of Baina Sports Club welcomed and compered. Andrew Rodrigues, treasurer introduced the guests of honour. Tulsidas Naik, proposed the vote of thanks.
Mario Vales officiated the finals and was assisted by Shaikh Niazi and Raghunath Gossavi.
The total prize amounting Rs 1,50,000 was sponsored by Narayan Rajaram Bandekar, industrialist.
