DAVORLIM: Hosts Sporting Club of Davorlim got the better of Betalbatim SC 5-4 via the tie-breaker to enter the semi-finals of the 12th Davorlim Cup All-Goa Football tournament, at Davorlim Panchayat ground, on Saturday. There was no score ate full time.
Betalbatim SC played quick short passes in the opening stages of the match which saw them dominate their opponents.
Strikers Klinsman Pereira and Kingslee Fernandes combined well for Betalbatim SC and made space. In the fifth minute, Klinsman collected the ball from Kingslee inside the SC Davorlim danger zone and was just about to release the trigger but defender Andrew Colaco left him frustrated with a timely tackle.
Soon, Klinsman was at his best to take control of the ball and after dribbling two rival defenders unleashed a shot but rival goalkeeper Rosfan Miranda did well to come up with a crucial block in the 15th minute.
SC Davorlim came close to scoring in the 16th minute as Meclon Colaco fed Selwin Miranda inside the Betalbatim SC box but the latter lost control as defender Frazier Rogtao of Betalbatim SC cleared the ball to safety.
Klinsman then made two quick moves in the 34th and 36th minutes but shot wide.
The second half started with the teams aiming to score but the ball was mostly confined to the midfield.
Selwin Miranda of SC Davorlim came up with a solo effort in the 47th minute but his long ranger flew high above the cross piece of Betalbatim SC.
At the other end, Klinsman had another go in the 49th minute but saw his effort go wide.
The teams provided end-to-end action in the final quarter of the proceedings but their strikers lacked shaprness in front of goal and failed to convert.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, SC Davorlim held their nerves and scored through Agnelo Colaco, Standly Miranda, Paxton Gomes, Selwin Miranda and Meclon Colaco while Betalbatim SC converted through Klunsner Pereira, Recky Fernandes, Francis Rodrigues and Julio Fernandes.
