MAPUSA: Mandopa Sports Club, Navelim hammered Raia Sporting Club 4-1 to enter the semi-finals of the Hotel Goan Heritage Soccer Cup, organized by Calangute Association, at Poriat ground, Calangute, on Saturday.
Despite the scoreline, it was Raia who broke the deadlock in the sixth minute when Lloyd Cardozo positioned himself perfectly to tap home the ball from close range.
Finding themselves a goal down, Navelim raised the tempo of the match and managed to net in the equalizer in the 25th minute when Alvito Colaco’s strike had no answer from the rival custodian. Five minutes later, Sandy Colaco put Navelim into the lead scoring from a long range effort.
Crossing over, the winners were all over the rival territory and further inflated the lead when Nevin Pereira set up Avron Gomes who neatly slotted the ball into the nets.
Alvito Colaco sealed the fate of the match in favour in the closing stages of the match through a powerful shot from the top of the box.
