CHANDOR: Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda defeated Maina Sports Club 5-3 to move to the semi-finals of the 14th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup, organised by Guirdolim Club and played at Chandor Church ground.
In the 15th minute Sertorio Monteiro put Maina in the lead. Already a goal down Don Bosco suffered another blow when referee Jose Rebello rightly gave marching orders to midfielder Cliff Baretto for a dangerous tackle. Just when it looked like the match would end in Maina’s favour, Alfred Noronha of Don Bosco in the 59th minute slipped through the Maina defence and scored the equaliser. In the resulting tie- breaker Don Bosco scored through Roque Borges, Samson Miranda, Valito Miranda and Christopher Borges while Nicolau Borges’s spot kick was saved by the Maina Keeper. For Maina, Savio and Veron Fernandes scored while Mairon Fernandes and Floyd Baretto’s spot kicks were saved by Valito Miranda the Don Bosco Keeper.
