Dempo SC, Cavelossim play a drab draw

The teams made attempts to score in both the sessions but their efforts went in vain

PANJIM: Dempo Sports Club and Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim played out a 0-0 draw in the U-20 TACA League game organized by Goa Football Association at Cavelossim ground, on Thursday.
The initial minutes witnessed both teams play one to one as they kept swapping possession. But the first chance was created by Dempo SC’s Boris De Mello who shot away from target from inside the box.
On the other side, SCC Cavelossim came up with two chances. First through Kevin Almeida who failed to connect to Ralph Fernandes’ pass and then Ralph shot wide off Allwyn’s corner in the 15th minute.
The teams played a drab game in the first quarter as it was restricted to midfield play.
The first shot on target in the game was created by Perryson Fernandes of SCC Cavelossim in the 26th minute but the Dempo SC keeper saved it.
Ralph of SCCC flicked the ball to Kevin in the 29th minute but the later failed to control the ball.
The Dempo SC side had a golden opportunity to net in the first as Boris De Mello lobbed the ball over to Aaron Alvares, but he found himself in an offside position.
Aaron then found his low shot go right into the keepers arms as both teams headed into half time goalless.
Post resumption, the first chance was created by Rayan Pinto of Dempo SC who’s shot off a free kick from the edge of the box was well caught by the home side keeper. On the other side, Kevin passed the ball in to Cayven Araujo but his run was well cleared by Larryl Mascarenhas at the back for Dempo.
Desmon Pereira, the skipper of the dempo side played well in the central area but he failed to find support from Aaron and Baggio Fernandes.
For the home team, Allwyn Vaz played an instrumental role in midfield but he lacked finishing.
In the 73rd minute, Rayan of Dempo shot it in to Aaron but he failed to connect the header.
The best chance for Cavelossim to score the winner came in the 86th minute as Allwyn’s curling shot from the edge of the box was tapped away for a corner by Dempo SC’s custodian.
The Dempo SC keeper was tested on numerous attempts as Allwyn and Xavier came up with impressive shots but it was an alert goalkeeper that saved the day for Dempo.
The game witnessed some ugly turns in the ending minutes as the Dempo side were denied a penalty as the ball tapped the hand of Cavelossim defender.
In the additional time, Aaron Alvares was in a one on one situation with just the keeper to beat but he failed to control the ball and the game ended with both teams sharing points.
