VASCO: Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) created yet another history in Indian Shipbuilding Industry, by delivering all six ships, each weighing 2400 tonnes and 105 meter long, ahead of schedule.
The sixth and last of the ship “ICGS Sujay”, delivered by GSL on November 4, was ceremoniously inducted into Indian Coast Guard by Director General Coast Guard (DGCG) Rajendra Singh on Thursday at GSL in the presence of RAdm Shekhar Mital, CMD, GSL and other dignitaries.
These state-of-the-art, largest and most advanced new generation vessels have been built in a record time of 36 months as against 67 months taken for similar sized Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPVs) previously.
Addressing the gathering, DGCG Rajendra Singh said, “GSL is the single, most important partner in the growth story of Indian Coast Guard. The GSL built ships are the mainstay of Indian Coast Guard in helping them to rescue precious lives at sea both during natural calamities like ‘cyclone Ockhi’ or man-made disasters like oil spills, fire incidents onboard merchant ships, besides anti-piracy and anti smuggling operations of Coast Guard. GSL not only ‘Makes in India’ but ‘Makes the Best in India’.”
Addressing the gathering, Shekhar Mital said, ‘Today is a momentous occasion to express GSL’s pride, marking the conclusion of the sixth CGOPV project by GSL. Starting with the delivery of ICGS Samarth on October 30, 2015, GSL has successfully delivered all the six high quality OPVs within a short span of 2 years, with the last delivery of this ship on November 4, 2017, 34 days ahead of schedule.”
