Don Bosco crowned champs

Defeat Loyola HS, Margao 3-1 in final; Don Bosco’s Nikhil adjudged Player of the tournament; Aman gets player of the match award for his brace

PANJIM: Don Bosco High School, Panjim got the better of Loyola High School, Margao 3-1 to emerge champions of St Domnic Savio all-Goa inter-school football tournament, organized by the Don Bosco Past Pupils, Mormugao Unit, at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Sunday. 
The match started off on a very fast note with the teams having equal possession but after 10 minutes, Don Bosco showed their might as they combining well and scored three goals before the lemon break.
The first goal came off the boots of Shannon Viegas from a well measured pass by Aman Govekar. The hard-working Aman completed the Don Bosco’s tally with two quick strikes.
The second half saw a complete rejuvenated Loyola team who came out all guns blazing. They dominated and finally reduced the deficit through a beautiful free-kick by Aaron Baretto.
The Loyola lads continued putting the pressure and the Don Bosco team were very lucky as the ball hit the crossbar on three occasions.
The individual prizes were awarded to First goal scorer Shannon Viegas of Don Bosco, Best defender Aniket Gupta of Don Bosco, Best goalkeeper Saiesh Kunkolkar of Don Bosco, Best player of the day Danstan Fernandes of Loyola, Player of the match Aman Govekar of Don Bosco and Player of the tournament Nikhil Correia of Don Bosco.
Sandip Jacques, Executive Director of Sports Authority of Goa was the chief guest and Fr Paul D’Souza, vice-provincial, Don Bosco Panjim-Konkan was the guest of honour and they distributed the prizes.
Earlier, president Cdr PJ Agustine welcomed. Luis Fernandes, secretary proposed the vote of thanks. Anthony Athaide compered.
