MARGAO: Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, emerged victorious in the inter-collegiate tennis championship for men, organised by Goa University, at the Sports Authority of Goa’s (SAG) tennis court, Fatorda Sports Complex, recently.
The Fatorda-based team defeated VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics, Margao, 2-1 in a closely contested final.
In the finals, the first singles match saw Raoul Vas of Don Bosco College defeating Samprabh Phaldesai of Shree Damodar College with a scoreline of 6-2. However, Shree Damodar College levelled the contest in the second singles, with Sanath Nevgi overcoming Deion Braganza of Don Bosco College by 6-2.
The deciding doubles match was an intense affair. Don Bosco College, represented by Raoul Vas and Pranil Naik, defeated the Shree Damodar pair of Samprabh Phaldesai and Jabiullah Bankapur, 6-4.
Earlier in the semi-finals, Shree Damodar College defeated St Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim, 2-0, while Don Bosco College of Engineering overcame Don Bosco College, Panjim, 2-1.
A total of 19 teams participated in the two-day championship. Raoul Vas from Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, was adjudged the best player of the tournament for his outstanding performance.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by chief guest, professor Sanjay Dessai, officiating principal of VVM’s Shree Damodar College and guest of honour, Suresh Kadam, a tennis coach. They were joined by Balachandra Jadar, assistant director of PE and sports, Goa University. Medals and trophies were presented to the winners and runners-up.
