VERNA: Father Basilio outclassed their opposition in all departments as they defeated Santa Cruz HSS 5-0 in the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports league match, at Fr Agnel ground, Verna, on Wednesday.
Fr Basilio took the lead in the 15th minute through Roygen Pereira who found space in the box before finishing past the Santa Cruz HSS keeper. The lead was doubled 6 minutes later by defender Henning Pereira who scored through a set-piece routine in the 21st minute.
Lucas Zylester soon put his side 3-0 up in the 25th minute as the match seemingly one-sided heading into the interval.
Richi Jesus Fider would also get his name on the score sheet before the end of the half when he scored in the 27th minute to give his side a commanding 4 goal lead.
The Second half saw Fr Basilio ease up on their opposition as they controlled the game and tried to get more goals.
Santa Cruz HSS offered little to make a contest of the match and were mostly found defending and avoiding an embarrassment. Fr Basilio would again manage to score when Richi Jesus Fider would score his second of the match and finish the match in the 45th minute with a 5-0 scoreline.
The result leaves Father Basilio at the helm of Group A with 3 points in the bag and a +5 goal difference.
