PANJIM: Alila Diwa GFGDC Utorda Centre marked their first anniversary celebrations with the trainees and parents with great pomp at the SAG ground, Utorda, recently.
Also present were Chairman of GFDC Dr Rufino Monteiro, GM of Alila Diwa Siddarth Savkar, GFDC council members Shantaram Naik and Agnelo Fonseca.
There was a festive atmosphere with many small-sided football matches, juggling and other events conducted by coaches Linette Vaz and Joaquim Fernandes.
In his speech, Dr Rufino stated that the Utorda Alila Diwa GFDC centre was one of the best centre in Goa in terms of overall functioning. He further lauded the trainees for winning the Fair Play trophy and Best Player award at the all-Goa GFDC Vodafone inter-centre tournament held recently.
Dr Rufino appealed to the parents to enrol their girls for training and also thanked the parents who gave their support to the centre head and coaches. He also appreciated the efforts put in by the centre head Albino D’Costa and the coaches to ensure the centre runs smoothly.
Siddarth Savkar was pleased to see the progress made by the centre and assured all the support in future.
Earlier, President of United Club of Utorda, Trindade Fernandes welcomed the gathering while IPP Agnelo Pereira compered the proceedings. Centre head Albino D’Costa proposed the vote of thanks.
Among the other dignitaries present were Francis Morais, Seby Fernandes, Jose Sultan Fernandes, Ligorio Braganza, Johnny Gomes and Pascoal Soares. A large gathering of villagers from Utorda, Majorda and Calata were present for the occasion.
