MAPUSA: Goan Warrior Sports Club edged past Fr Agnel Youth Center Pilar in the Goa Football Association’s U-14 North Zone semi-finals (Second Division) played at Duler Stadium, on Friday.
In the 12th minute a perfect cross from Fr Agnel’s Aden De Souza was controlled by Denis Oliveira who in turn played the ball to Plascio Mascarenhas who blasted the ball wide.
At the other end a corner by Goan Warrior’s Heramb Sawant saw Nakul’s strike being collected by Pilar keeper Jawson Rodrigues.
Just two minutes into the second session and Fr Agnel forged ahead. A long ball inside the penalty box by Aden was not cleanly collected by Goan Warrior’s keeper Ratnakant to find Hansel D’Silva tap the ball home, 1-0.
Hardly had the cheers died down Goan Warrior’s equalised in the 39th minute. A fine cross by Nakul Gawas was collected by highest scorer of the ongoing league Zaid Khan who scored a gem of a goal with a superb placement, 1-1.
Zaid almost netted his brace in the 43rd minute but his strike was blocked for a corner by Pilar keeper Jawson. From the resultant corner by Rihan Shamshad Shah guided the ball into the Pilar goal, 2-1.
In the Mormugao zone match, Cortalim Villagers registered a 2-0 win over Verna Sports and Cultural Association.
Cortlaim scored through Ashon Vaz and Krunal Naik.
Verna SCA tried their level best but they couldn’t get past a strong Cortlaim defence.
