MAPUSA: Guardian Angel Sports Club drubbed Football Club de Bardez 6-0 in the Goa Professional League match, organised by Goa Football Association, played at Duler Stadium, here on Monday.
With this win, Angels have 20 points in their basket from 15 matches, while Bardez struggling at the bottom half of the table with 15 points from the same number of matches.
Climax Lawrence, who was in the charge of the Bardez side in the absence of their head coach Armando Colaco, made two changes to their side which lost to Panjim Footballers in the last match as Stany Braganza and Micky Vaz made found their names in the starting XI.
Whereas, Angels coach Riston Rodrigues made no changes to his side which went down to Sporting Clube de Goa in the previous round match.
Angels had a great start to the match as they took just 30 seconds to open their account when Aniston Fernandes made no mistake to shoot past Bardez keeper David Chauhan from close off the Nicholas Rodrigues’ pass to make it 1-0 for his side.
Bardez also had a couple of chances in the next 15 minutes but first, Angels keeper Ram Sroop made a diving effort to push Clinton Niasso’s goal bound free-kick for a corner, while a few minutes later, Clinton shot wide from close after getting a perfect cross from Shubham Rao Desai in the box.
In the 20th minute, Nigerian striker Yakubu Mohammed made it 2-0 for the Angels when he made no mistake to head the ball home from close after getting a perfect cross from Nicholas Rodrigues.
Bardez also had a chance to reduce the margin when they were awarded a free-kick just outside the box but Clinton’s strike was denied by the crossbar.
Angels added another to their tally with just four minutes left to the half-time when the Bardez defenders failed to clear Yakubu’s low cross in the box where unmarked Clifton Dias slammed the ball into the net making it 3-0 at the half-time.
On changing the ends, Clinton continued to miss chances as this time he tapped wide from the top of the box with Angels custodian Ram completely out of position.
At the other end, Angels further inflated their lead in the 51st minute when Yakubu completed his brace with a fine placement from inside the box to Aniston’s through pass making it 4-0 for his side.
Four minutes later, Nicolau Colaco almost scored from the 40-yards when he went for the glory from the distance only to see it denied by the crossbar.
However, in the 75th minute, Angels scored the fifth goal of the match through Aniston who also completed his brace when he blasted in from 6-yards off Perryson Rebello’s diagonal pass.
Skipper Nicholas hammered the final nail in the Bardez’s coffin in the 90th minute when he tapped in from close off Nicolau’s cross to make it 6-0 for the Curchorem based club.
