RAIA: Guardian Angel Sports Club prevailed over Cuncolim Union 2-1 to enter the semi-finals of 8th Martin’s Cup organised by Betalbatim Sporting Club at the Betalbatim panchayat ground, on Monday.
In a evenly contested match, both teams showed determination and skill in front of large crowd and Vitorinho Fernandes missed the first chance in the 15th minute of play and in the counter attack Daulat Dessai ran down and beat the defence and shot with left footer which was hit to side pole and went out of play. Both teams remained 0-0 draw at the lemon break.
After resumption of second half, Guardian Angel SC broke the deadlock through their striker Vitorinho with a neat placement, while Richard Fernandes doubled the lead for Guardian Angel SC. Thereafter, Cuncolim Union mounted pressure and went all out to find the equaliser and Denvil Fernandes pulled one goal back for Cuncolim Union.
The last 10 minutes were tense and Cuncolim Union tried hard but Oswin Rodrigues goalkeeper was very active and saved the day for Guardian Angel SC on four occasions with one to one situation, two times goalmouth collection and last a free-kick punching away for a corner.
Guardian Angel SC now will meet United Boys Ambaulim in the semi-final.
