MARGAO: Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorrm survived stiff resistance from St Rock’s Youth Club, Calata-Majorda 5-4 via tiebreaker to qualify for the final of the All Goa 37th St Joseph Festival inter village football tournament organized by Dramapur Sports Club at Dramapur ground, on Wednesday.
The teams were locked goalless at the end of regulation period.
St Rock’s held a slight edge over their opponents in the opening sessions. Though St Rock’s came close on quite a few occasions to take the lead but their strikers ran out of steam after reaching the rival danger zone.
At the other hand, Guardian Angel Sports Club tried to regain their composure. They made desperate attempts to surge head but inexperience upfront let them down.
Crossing over, Guardian Angel Sports Club made solid attempts to make inroads into their rival half. Guardian Angel Sports Club came close but striker Marcus D’Costa volley sailed over the cross bar. With the match heading for a tie-breaker, both teams went all out but the match winner eluded them .
With the regulation time ending in a stalemate, the tiebreaker was brought into play and Guardian Angel Sports Club held their nerves to come out victorious. They scored through Joy D’Costa, Allison D’Costa, Mauvin Olveira , Anthony Dias and Melvito Fernandes while Vellington Fernandes , Steve Fernandes, Vencsley Pereira and Desmond Antao scored for St Rock’s.
Marcus D’Costa who played a stellar role for Guardian Angel Sports Club was adjudged man of the match award.
