RAIA: Guirdolim Club edged past Nuvem SC 3-1 to move into the quarter-finals of Navelim Villagers Union Trophy in the inaugural match played at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Saturday. Vitoriono Fernandes of Guirdolim Club was the star of the match with his dribbling and shooting prowess while Inacio Colaco gave his best to Nuvem SC. Both teams displayed a good brand of soccer in front of nearly 500 spectators.
Melvin Fernandes of Nuvem SC missed a chance to score in the 4th minute. Later, Inacio Colaco of Nuvem SC shot wide in the 9th minute. Gale D’Costa of Guirdolim Club power-packed shot hit the Nuvem SC cross bar and went out of play in the 20th minute. Valentino Carvalho scored the first goal of the match with a placement shot in the 19th minute.

As the match progressed in the second half, Guirdolim Club netted two more goals through Vitoriono Fernandes in the 48th and 50th minutes respectively. While Inacio Colaco pulled a goal back for Nuvem in the 52nd minute. Sarmenti D’Silva, former player of Mafatlal SC, Mumbai, declared the tournament open and later presented the man-of the-match award to Vitoriono.
