Jharkhand style: A goat as trophy for winners

Can you believe this! A goat as a reward for the winner of a football match? Yes, two football matches were played at Pilar on I-Day and the winners took goats as their trophies for the Khasi Cup. In Sadri, the local language of the Jharkhand people, Khasi means goat.
Over 1000 youth from Jharkhand gathered at Pilar school ground to play an orally pre-set contest of a football match. The youth from Jharkhand working in Pilar emerged winners defeating the Jharkhand youth from Mapusa with a 2-1score. Twenty-one-year old Sanjay Kullu scored the winning goal for Pilar team.
In the other match, Kundaim defeated Odxel 4-0 to take a goat home as a winning prize.
With no shoes and no jerseys to identify the opponents, the Jharkhand youth managed to pull things together to come to a joyful finale of the Independence Day.
For over a decade the Jharkhand youth are gathering to play hockey and football matches in various parts of Goa. The trophies for these matches may be goats, pigs and poultry, stated Bharat Gop, a resident of Jharkhand who is working in Pilar for the last 15 years.
There were two more hockey matches which were not played. The prize was a pig each from both the contests. These teams did not turn up as there was another tournament organised by the youth of Jharkhand in Vasco. In Sadri, pig means banda and when the trophy is a pig it is called Banda Cup.
Call the Jharkhand youth anything. This piece of writing will surely not be read by Jharkhandis working in Goa but it is a honour that they do a lot of work for us in the State.
