PANJIM: Top seed Joshua Telles was crowned champion at the All-Goa Liberation Cup Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2025 held at the Dr K B HegdeSchool, Cujira, recently.
He scored eight points out of 9. Satyam Phal and WCM Gunjal Chopdekar also scored eight points each and were placed second and third respectively.
Saras Powar, Supriyo Das and Dmitry Bezstrakhov scored 7.5 points each to be in the 4th to 6th place, while Mohd Latheef S, Sai Prabhakaran, Anar Shayakberov, Tanad Bandodkar, Jess Cardozo, Arthav Shirodker, AFM Vasant Naik, Shaurya Agrasani and Nagesh Nayak scored 7.0 points each to be in the 7th to 15th place.
Asian Youth U-7 medal winner Prayank Gaonkar and U-7 national champion Evan Telles were felicitated for their outstanding performances.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Melwyn Camara complimented Queens Chess and Cultural Club for the wonderful work they are undertaking to develop the sport of chess in Goa.
Chief ArbiterSanjay Kavalekar read out the arbiters report. Former treasurer AICF Kishor Bandekar also spoke on the occasion.
Also present on the dais were Sameer Naik, secretary QTCA; former State chess champion Vasant Naik and chess coach Balakrishanan V.
Earlier, Dr Roopa Belurkar, president of Queens Chess and Cultural Club welcomed the gathering and later Vice-President Dr Pradnya Kakodkar proposed the vote of thanks and compered the function.
