The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has responded after the BCCI shifted the IPL 2026 final from Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium to Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. The title clash is scheduled for May 31, with Ahmedabad continuing its run as a preferred knockout venue.
KSCA spokesperson Vinay Mruthyunjaya said the association has not received any official explanation from the BCCI regarding the change. While acknowledging that venue selection rests entirely with the board, he said no formal communication has clarified the reason behind the decision.
The BCCI had earlier cited “operational and logistical considerations” and requirements from local authorities as reasons for the shift. However, questions remain around Bengaluru’s exclusion despite Royal Challengers Bengaluru entering the season as defending champions.
The M Chinnaswamy Stadium has been under scrutiny following the June 4, 2025 stampede during RCB celebrations, which claimed 11 lives. The incident led to safety reviews and infrastructure upgrades, while the venue also faced controversy over MLA ticket allocation during IPL 2026.
KSCA maintained that it successfully hosted league matches and had expressed full readiness for playoff games and the final. Despite this, the BCCI opted for Ahmedabad, marking another major final away from Bengaluru, which previously hosted the IPL finals in 2014 and 2016.
