PANJIM: Adv. P M Kantak won the prestigious 4th late Lcdr Gopal Sakharam Sukhthankar all-Goa open rapid chess tournament, organized by the Parent Teacher Association of Mushtifund High School, Panjim under the auspices of Goa Chess Association and Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association (TTCA), at Institute Menezes Braganza hall, here, on Sunday. Kantak scored eight points of a possible nine points.
The second went to CM Nitish Belurkar (7.5 points), while Barath M (7.5points) secured the third spot and Niraj Saripalli bagged the fourth spot.
The other 16 prize winners were: CM Leon Mendonca, Amey Audi, Saiesh Audi, Aditee Prabhugaonkar, Anant Prabhu Dessai, Deeptesh Karmalkar, Shane Braganca, Sanjil Hoble, Aishwarya Thorat, Om Barde, WCM Swera Braganza, Rajat Vaskar, Sachin Kakodkar, Vrun Shastry, Bhimappa Harijan and Vaibhav Pednekar.
Other results were: U-15 category 1st Sumukh Pinge, 2nd Ambar Dalal, 3rd Sakshi Prabhu. U-13: 1st Ian Rodrigues, 2nd Eeshan Gad, 3rd Faiziya Khan and 4th Sanskruti Naroji. U-11: 1st Madhavan G, 2nd Anurag Adwalpalkar, 3rd Shmbavi Gaonkar and 4th Sayujya Deshmukh. U-9: 1st Vernon Colaco, 2nd Harsh Dagre, 3rd WCM Gunjal Chopdekar, 4th Tanvi Hadkonkar. U-7: 1st Borkar Pratik, 2nd Joy Kakodkar, 3rd Parth Salvi, 4th Srilaxmi Kamat, 5th Pradnya Upadhye begged the prizes.
The following players of Mushtifund HS were awarded special prizes: Ajinkya Chavan,Vedant Pagi, Anant Prabhu Khadpe , Swapnil Manerkar, Shriram Parab.
Kantak was awarded the championship trophy at the hands of Vinay Tendulkar, President of GCA.
Kishore Bandekar, Secretary of GCA and joint secretary of AICF; Prashant Kunkolienkar, (Chairman, Mushtifund HS PTA); Vidhya Sangodkar (assistant Headmistress); Kirti Agshikar (secretary, PTA); Sanjay Belurkar (secretary, TTCA); Arvind Mhamal (Chief Arbiter) and Dattaram Pinge (co-ordinator) were also present.
Vidhya Sangodkar welcomed. Kirti Agshikar proposed the vote of thanks. Rupa Morajkar compered.
