VASCO: Madhya Pradesh scored a hard fought 3-0 victory over Daman and Diu in second match of the West Zone Qualifiers of the 70th National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy, at Tilak Maidan, Vasco.
Madhya Pradesh led 2-0 at halftime.
Madhya Pradesh got off to a good start with Shubhank Mannewar, Baldhir Tigga and Abhilash Kale combing well upfront and making good inroads in the opposition’s box with a strong determination to get the early goal. Their hard work paid off with O M Prakash scoring a fine goal from just outside the box in the 11th minute of play. Madhya Pradesh got a good break with some quick passes between Yash Lal and Nveen Tomar which found Aakash Ahir, who made no mistake with a nice tap in goal in the 23rd minute of play.
Post resumption, Daman and Diu came out determined to pull a goal back and a fine attempt by Sachin Mangela was denied by the goal post.
