MARGAO: Maina Sports Club prevailed over Dicarpale Sports Club 4-3 via tie-breaker to storm into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Mandopa Cup inter village football tournament organized by Mandopa Sporting Club at Mandopa ground, Thursday.
Both teams were locked goalless at the end of regulation period.
The teams started on a cautious note, with Maina sticking to their rhythm they called the shots against the rival citadel.
Dicarpale did not leg behind as they created forays in the rival territory but their forwards ran out ideas after reaching the rival danger zone.
After the break, both adopted safety approach and defenders stood tall in protecting the citadel.
With the regulation time ending goalless draw, the tie-breaker was enforced and Maina came out victorious in the penalty shoot out. Custodio Peixoto,Vicky Cardozo, Milagres Ferandes and Myron Fernandes were on target for Maina while Sidney Furtado, Leslie Costa and Leslie Carvalho found the mark for Dicarpal.
