RAIA: Margao Sports Club registered a hard-fought 1-0 victory over San Jose de Areal Sports Club to march into the quarter-finals of Fr Agnelo Inter-Village football tournament organised by Fr Agnelo Sports and Cultural Club, Paroda, at the panchayat ground, Avedem, on Sunday.
Margao Sports Club made a strong start and took the lead in the 10th minute through Johnston Dias with a well-placed strike that completely deceived the rival goalkeeper.
In the second half, San Jose de Areal SC regrouped and displayed better coordination, mounting sustained pressure in search of an equaliser.
However, their efforts went in vain as the Margao SC defence held firm till the final whistle, ensuring their place in the quarter-finals.

football: FC Mugalli in next round
FC Mugalli got the better of Blue Star Irgorjeawado 2-0 to move into the next round of Areal inter-ward football tournament organised by Kotu Boys of Areal, at Areal ground, on Sunday.
Both the teams started the match on a good note but Marcus Mascarenhas opened the account for FC Mugalli, while Beckham Faleiro doubled the lead.
